Asphalt General Superintendent

The role of the Superintendent is to coordinate sub trades and suppliers, material and equipment, ensuring that specification are being strictly followed, and work is proceeding on schedule and within budget to enhance the profitability and growth of the Company.

The Superintendent shall provide Management with accurate and timely information to ensure projects are meeting all contract requirements in an effective and efficient manner, which supports profitable business decisions.

It is also the responsibility of the Superintendent to ensure site safety in accordance with OHSA and Company policy.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Thorough knowledge of paving methods, techniques, construction/municipal standards and equipment.
  • Possess the ability to ensure paving crews perform essential asphalt paving duty satisfactorily.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of specifications and procedures; proficient in interpreting project plans, for placing and finishing asphalt in a variety of municipal, commercial, and rural environments.
  • Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge of software such as Outlook and Office and relevant software (Estimate, B2W Track, Salus).

FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Must adhere to processes and policies in support of organizational goals, legal duties and legislative requirements.
  • Ensure adequate manpower is available for each task and compliant work performed.
  • Provide direction too and resolve problems amongst employees, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Identify deficient work and provide resolution.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, procedure manuals, project plans and/or blueprints.
  • Adapt to changes in the work environment and able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Ensure field logs hours and quantities reported are accurate and have accurate job numbers and cost codes.
  • Ensure and all extra work identified onsite is communicated to project manager without delay.
  • Responsible for tools and equipment being maintained and available for use.
  • Ensure company vehicles and equipment are kept clean and washed.
  • Dispatch trucks accordingly and efficiently to the needs of the crews.
  • Vacation days need to be prearranged and approved with management. Due to the seasonal aspect of our business all vacation days must be taken between the periods of December to April.
  • You are required to review upcoming projects continuously in the office and verifying with estimators which suppliers gravel and asphalt materials are coming from.
  • Assisting in the plant aggregate haul, and management of the asphalt plant.
  • Reviewing and interviewing potential candidates for paving personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.
